Terms of Use
These terms are an agreement between you and Kishan Singh, the developer of Spotlight60, based in Jaipur, Rajasthan, India ("we", "us"). They cover your use of the Spotlight60 Android app and its related pages (together, "the service"). By installing or using the app you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, please don't use the app.
1. What Spotlight60 is
Spotlight60 is a free news reader for entertainment and music news (Bollywood, Hollywood, Tollywood and electronic dance music). It brings together headlines, short excerpts, pictures and videos from the public feeds of other publishers. Each story names its source and has a Read More link to the original article on the publisher's site. Spotlight60 does not write the news it shows and is not the publisher of that news.
2. Who can use it
You must be at least 13 years old to use the app. If you are under 18, or under the age of majority where you live, you may use it only with the involvement of a parent or guardian. A parent or guardian must agree to these terms for you, and must agree before you create an account. You may not use the app if the law forbids you from doing so.
3. Your account
- Creating an account is optional. You can read the news without one.
- If you create one, give true, current details about yourself, and don't sign up using someone else's email address or identity.
- You are responsible for activity on your account. Tell us if you think someone else is using it.
- You can ask us to delete your account at any time. See Delete account.
4. News content and publishers
- Ownership. Headlines, excerpts, pictures, videos, logos and articles shown in the app belong to their publishers and other rights holders. Their trademarks belong to them. Showing their content does not mean they endorse Spotlight60, or that we endorse them.
- Accuracy. We don't check, edit or verify publishers' stories. They may contain mistakes or opinions, or be out of date. Read the original article, and check important facts with the publisher or another reliable source, before you rely on them.
- Their sites, their terms. Read More, videos and other links take you to websites and apps we don't control (for example a publisher's site, YouTube or Spotify). Their own terms and privacy policies apply there.
- Their choices. Some publishers ask that their text be shown exactly as written, or that their pictures not be used in shared images. The app follows those requests. We may add, remove or change sources at any time.
- Personal use only. You may read and share stories for your own non-commercial use. You may not copy, republish, sell or broadcast publishers' content from the app, or use it to build another service.
5. Translations and read aloud
- Machine translation. When the app is set to Hindi, English stories are translated by software on your phone: Google ML Kit, or the optional IndicTrans2 model if you download it. Machine translation can be wrong, leave things out or change the meaning, especially for names, quotes, slang and numbers. The original English text is always available (Show original), and the original article is the authoritative version.
- Read aloud. Spoken versions are made by speech software and may mispronounce words.
- Not an endorsement. A translated or spoken version is not a statement by the publisher or by us.
6. Acceptable use
When using the service, you agree not to:
- break any law, or infringe anyone's copyright, trademark, privacy or other rights;
- copy, scrape, crawl or automatically collect stories or data from the app or its services;
- reverse engineer, decompile or modify the app, except as the law expressly allows;
- remove or hide credits, source names, links or copyright notices;
- interfere with the app, its servers or other users, or try to get unauthorised access to them;
- use the app to spread malware, spam or misleading content;
- impersonate anyone, or misrepresent your connection with Spotlight60 or a publisher;
- create accounts with false details or by automated means.
7. Sharing stories
The Share button creates a message, and for most stories a picture, that includes the headline, the source's name and a link to the original article. When you share, keep the credit and link in place. Don't edit a shared story to change what it says or who wrote it. You are responsible for what you share and where.
8. Our app and brand
The app's software, design and the Spotlight60 name and logo belong to us and are protected by law. We give you a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to install and use the app on devices you own or control, for your own non-commercial use, under these terms and Google Play's terms. All rights not expressly given to you are reserved.
9. Copyright complaints
If you own content that appears in Spotlight60 and want it changed or removed, or believe something in the app infringes your rights, email [email protected] with the subject "Spotlight60 content request". Include:
- your name and contact details;
- the content concerned (a link or screenshot helps);
- the rights you hold and what you would like us to do;
- a statement that the information in your request is accurate.
We act on valid requests promptly. Where required, that is within 36 hours under India's IT Rules, 2021. Publishers can also ask us to stop including their feed entirely.
10. Downloads and third-party parts
Some features download extra files when you ask for them: the Hindi language pack (from Google), the better Hindi translation model (IndicTrans2 by AI4Bharat, MIT licence, from Hugging Face) and the natural voice (from the sherpa-onnx project on GitHub). They can be large, so use Wi-Fi if your data is limited. You are responsible for any mobile data charges. These parts and the open-source libraries in the app are provided under their own licences, and those licences apply to them. Google ML Kit is provided under Google's terms.
11. Notifications
If you allow it, the app sends alerts about new stories. You can turn them off, or set quiet hours, in the app's About screen or in your phone's settings. Alerts depend on your device, network and Android's battery rules, so they may be late or not arrive at all.
12. Price, ads and subscriptions
The app is free and shows no ads today. Future versions may show ads as separate cards between stories, never inside or on top of a publisher's content. They may also offer an optional subscription that removes ads. Any paid feature will show its price and terms before you buy, and purchases will go through Google Play under its billing terms. Nothing in these terms requires you to pay for the current app.
13. Changes and availability
We may change, add or remove features, sources or languages, or stop the service, at any time. We try to keep the app working, but we don't promise it will always be available, error-free or compatible with every device. We may update these terms. When we do, we will change the date above and, for material changes, tell you in the app. If you keep using the app after a change takes effect, you accept the new terms.
14. Ending your use
You can stop using the app at any time by uninstalling it and, if you have an account, asking us to delete it. We may suspend or end your access, or delete an account, if you break these terms or the law, or if we need to in order to protect users, publishers or the service. Sections 4, 8, 9 and 15 to 19 continue to apply after your use ends.
15. Disclaimers
The service is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent the law allows, we give no warranties of any kind, express or implied. This includes warranties of accuracy, completeness, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement and uninterrupted or secure operation. News, translations and spoken versions are for general information and entertainment only. They are not professional, legal, financial or other advice.
16. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for loss of data, profits, goodwill or device use. This includes losses arising from publishers' content, translations, third-party sites or apps, downloads, or interruptions to the service. Our total liability for any claim about the service is limited to ₹1,000 or the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, whichever is greater. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, or your rights as a consumer under the laws where you live.
17. Indemnity
You agree to compensate and protect us against reasonable claims, losses and costs (including legal fees) arising from your misuse of the service, your breach of these terms, or your infringement of someone else's rights.
18. Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of India. Before starting any formal dispute, please contact us so we can try to resolve the matter informally within 30 days. Any dispute that can't be resolved this way is subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts at Jaipur, Rajasthan, India. However, if you are a consumer, you keep any mandatory right to bring a claim in the courts of your home country.
19. General
- These terms and the Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between you and us about the service.
- If any part is found unenforceable, the rest stays in force.
- Not enforcing a right straight away doesn't mean we have given it up.
- You may not transfer your rights under these terms. We may transfer ours to someone who takes over the service.
- We are not responsible for delays or failures caused by events beyond our reasonable control.
- If these terms are translated, the English version takes priority.
- Google is not a party to these terms and is not responsible for the app, but Google Play's terms also apply to your download.
